At Little Cherubs Day Nursery we aim to provide the best day care service with our wide range of excellent facilities and by offering a variety of learning opportunities.

The welfare of your children placed in our care is of paramount importance. As the Nursery becomes their second home, great care is taken to provide a warm, safe and caring environment, in which the individual child feels happy and comfortable.

As a child's early years are the most formative and childhood is a precious time, our objective is to allow each individual child the opportunity to explore and develop at their own pace through a carefully planned and stimulating environment. This enables each child to achieve its own full potential.

Staff encourage children to value and respect one another as individuals with different needs and experiences. They also challenge a child's behavior or statement, which may discriminate. It is our policy not to use physical force, isolation or to leave a child unsupervised as a form of punishment. However, it may be necessary to take action to prevent injury to either the child , other children, adults or damage to property. All incidents will be recorded and the parents informed.
If we need to modify unacceptable behavior the discipline used is appropriate to the age and stage of development of the child. We gently remove the child from the situation and explain to them why and what has happened, and make appropriate alternative suggestions. If unacceptable or challenging behavior persists, the Manager will contact and discuss the matter with the parents to determine the best course of action. Under the Children's Act 1989, smacking, slapping or shaking a child is illegal and it is not used as a form of punishment by any member of staff.

The children are encouraged to learn through play. Using a wide variety of material and equipment they will develop physical, intellectual, language, emotional and social skills.

We appreciate that the parents/ carers are the children's main educators and we recognize and build on the experiences that the parents/carers and children bring with them from home and their community.

All of Little Cherubs Nursery Assistants have one or more of the following qualifications as required by Ofsted: NNEB, NVQ Level 3, NVQ Level 2,City & Guilds, Childcare Diploma. We would like all our staff to hold a valid First Aid Certificate, and training for this is renewed every three years. Staff will also undergo a Criminal Records Bureau Check

From time to time we need to employ temporary staff to ensure we retain our staff ratios within our levels required by Ofsted. All temporary staff at the Nursery are qualified, have a current First Aid Certificate and have passed a Criminal Records Bureau check.

Little Cherubs Nursery is an Equal Opportunities establishment.
Little Cherubs Nursery operates a No Smoking Policy.

Security

The security and safety of your child is of paramount importance. The main Nursery entrance is always kept locked. For access please ring the bell. A password is also issued to parents
parents/guardian. If any other person is to collect your child, you will need to contact the Manager, who will ask you to sign a form providing us with further details of the nominated person or persons. We will also ask for a photo of the nominated person and a specimen of their signature. Our staff are authorized to ask for identification if unsure. All staff are provided with a uniform to wear.

Communication

It is important for you to be informed about your child and how they are when you are not with them. Daily Diaries are filled in each day your child attends Nursery, with a brief note of how well they have eaten, sleep times & comments about how they have been during the day. Information is brief so the staff are not taken away from caring for & interacting with the children. They will of course be happy to chat with you at the start or end of each session about your child's day.

Equal Opportunities

Little Cherubs Nursery promotes equal access to all our activities for all the children, whatever the child's sex, religion, mother tongue, cultural background, home situation or special educational needs. The Nursery environment presents a positive picture of our multi-ethnic, multi-cultural society through its use of books, posters and educational needs.
We aim to show respectful awareness of all major events in the lives of the children and their families within the Nursery, and in our society as a whole, and to welcome the diversity of backgrounds from which they come.

We aim to acknowledge all festivals, which are celebrated within our community, and by the families within the Nursery. For children and families who celebrate festivals at home, with which the rest of the Nursery are not familiar, we would encourage the parents to come and share with us what they do on this, their special day. Members of staff who do not have any understanding of this culture will endeavor to find out information from books, the Internet and by speaking to others about it. Children will be able to enjoy the dressing up clothes, listening to stories and making things appropriate to the event.

Children and parents who have English as a second or additional language will be valued and their own native language will be recognized and respected within the Nursery.

Little Cherubs Nursery welcomes all children with special needs where we can offer appropriate care within our staffing ratio.

We like to involve you the parent as much as possible by holding regular open evenings. You can of course contact the room leader or Manager if you wish to discuss any aspect of your child's care, at any time, or if you feel there are any problems. It is usual that most problems can be dealt with immediately, and we aim to ensure that both the parents and children are happy with our care. If you have a complaint this should be put verbally and in writing to the Manager for her immediate attention. We will aim to resolve any problems straight away. If you feel that the complaint has not been dealt with in the correct manner or to your satisfaction, you may contact Ofsted, the registration authority, on 0845 6014771, who will assist you further.
